Ways to keep your Laundry Fresh

Ways to keep your Laundry Fresh

You’re probably thinking: “Wow, this laundry thing is so easy!” Well, it can be. The key is being intentional about how you do your laundry. If you’re like me and have been married for years and have siblings who are getting ready to go off to work and a job that requires wearing pantsuits every day, then keeping your clothes clean is hard work. But it doesn’t have to be! With these tips from my years of experience as the (unproclaimed) queen of laundry—and with help from my husband and siblings (who also happen to be experts on this topic)—I’ve compiled an easy-to-follow list of rules for how often you should wash each item in your closet in order to keep them looking (and smelling) new forevermore:

You should do a load of laundry right before bed, or first thing in the morning.

To keep your clothes fresh, wash them immediately after wearing them. If you wear an item of clothing once and then wait a day before washing it again, you’ll get more bang for your buck. Washing clothes too often can also be wasteful because detergents don’t work well on dirty fabrics.

There are some exceptions to this rule: if something stinks (like gym clothes), goes through multiple wears without being washed and is drenched with sweat or food stains (like pajamas or napkins), or is made out of delicate materials like silk (which wrinkles easily).

  • Wash towels and bed sheets every two weeks.
  • If you wash them more frequently, they will wear out faster.
  • If you don’t wash them often enough, they will be dirty.

As far as how often you should wash your clothing in hot water, this is entirely up to you. For example, if you’re just wearing a piece for a short period of time then it may be fine to wear it more than once before washing it again; however if a garment is something that’s worn often – such as an undershirt or a shirt which has sweat stains on it – then consider washing those items more frequently. The same goes for pillows. You should wash them every two weeks to prevent dirt buildup and keep them fresh. If you have allergies or asthma, you should wash your pillowcase more often than that..

Removing Dry Clean Only Items:

  • Remove dry clean only clothing immediately after wearing. To avoid getting the garment dirty, store it in a plastic bag until you can get to the dry cleaners.
  • If you neglect to remove your dress shirt or blouse immediately after wearing it, gently brush off any dirt or dust that may have accumulated before taking it to the cleaners. The cleaner will likely not be able to remove stains from fabric that has been worn without being cleaned first!

To keep your dark clothes looking great and lasting longer, wash them in cold water. Dark clothes made of mostly natural fibers (like cotton and silk) are prone to bleeding if they’re washed in warm or hot water. As a result, they can ruin the appearance of other clothing items and may even stain them permanently. To prevent this from happening, it’s best to use cold water when washing these types of materials as well as separate them from other garments before putting them into the washing machine.

Only wash dark clothes that are made up of mostly natural fibers in cold water, otherwise they could bleed and stain other clothes

If you have any concerns regarding whether or not a specific item will bleed when washed in hot water, there are several things you can do:

  • First, check if there is a care label somewhere on its surface which states how that particular piece should be washed; otherwise look at the tags inside the garment which may indicate what temperature setting should be used for optimal care. If neither option works then consider asking someone who knows about this sort of thing!
  • If all else fails then try using color catcher sheets along with vinegar instead of fabric softener during each cycle – this combination helps prevent dyes from bleeding onto white clothing while also keeping colors bright!

For items with spandex or Lycra, line dry them in the sun. These fabrics can be damaged by heat.

Avoid using fabric softener on synthetic materials—it causes them to pill over time.

Don’t use bleach on dark colors, as it can cause some colors to fade or run.

Use a color-fast formula on dark fabrics, and test it on an inconspicuous area first. If the garment is machine washable, add a color catcher to the load to prevent dye from bleeding onto other clothes.

It’s important that your laundry gets washed and dried in a timely manner. If you don’t, you could end up with smelly clothes that smell like mildew or mold and this can be very unpleasant for anyone who wears those garments.

You might think it would make sense to do one large load of laundry instead of several smaller ones throughout the week, but this is actually not true. One of the most common causes of un-fresh smelling clothes is overloading the washing machine or dryer! When this happens your clothes won’t get properly cleaned because there isn’t enough space inside either device for them all at once!

Being intentional about how you do your laundry can help you keep your favorite clothes clean.

  • Wash dark clothes in cold water.
  • Remove dry clean only items immediately after wearing.
  • Line dry any item with spandex or Lycra, such as yoga pants and leggings. If you don’t have access to a clothesline, hang them on a retractable hanger to air out in the sun instead of throwing them in the dryer immediately after washing them.

You’ll save money and have less laundry to do. Remember, don’t overload the washer. If it won’t fit, don’t wash it! Also, wash new clothes before wearing them for the first time. This will help prevent stains from setting in and make them last longer.
